Birkenstocks On Sale
Being an aging hippie I have had all kinds of sandals over the years. I have had them for walking on city streets, on the beach and in the country. If at all possible I would wear them until the coldest weather made me stop. Frozen toes are not fun. [Brought to you by Birkenstocks on Sale]
I remember having to stand in a tub of water to soak the flip flops so that they would conform to my feet. I would then have to wear them for several hours so that they were molded to my feet when they dried. Of course then it took a number of showers to remove the brown dye that stained my feet.
The sandals of choice among my friends initially were from Mexico. They were easy to break in and they looked great with torn jeans. And best of all they were cheap.

The main drawback of any style of Birks was the price compared to other sandals. They were anywhere between 5 times and 10 times more expensive. It was impossible to find any birkenstocks on sale.
It is true that they lasted forever, but still, the initial price was shocking.
But as Birkenstocks became more popular, the availability grew, the prices started to fall and Birkis grew from a single style to dozens of variations.
